One of the most important aspects of installing rubber mulch is to make sure that you have the correct amount. If you don't have enough, then you'll have patches of ground showing through and your playground won't be as safe as it could be. On the other hand, if you have too much, then you'll be wasting money and rubber mulch. Here's how to measure rubber mulch for playgrounds so that you can get it just right.
To start, you'll need to know the dimensions of the area that you're working with. This will include the length and width of the space, as well as the depth that you want the mulch to be. Once you have those numbers, you can begin to calculate the amount of rubber mulch that you'll need.
To get the depth measurement, you'll need to take into account the thickness of the layer that you want as well as the amount of loose fill that you'll be using. For example, if you're looking for a depth of two and a half inches, then you'll need to add an extra half-inch for the layer of loose fill. This will give you a total depth of three inches.
Next, you'll need to calculate the square footage of the area. To do this, simply multiply the length by the width. So, if your playground is 10 feet long and 20 feet wide, then the square footage would be 200.
Finally, you'll need to determine the cubic yards of mulch that you'll need. To do this, you'll multiply the square footage by the depth. So, using our example from before, we would multiply 200 by 3.0 (for a total depth of three inches). This would give us a total of 600 cubic yards of rubber mulch.
You can also measure by area, but it's important to remember that the depth will still need to be accounted for. So, if your playground is 600 square feet, then you'll need to multiply that by 3.0 (for a total depth of three inches). This would give you a total of 1800 cubic yards of rubber mulch.

In terms of the depth of the rubber mulch, you will need a 2" depth for landscaping, 3" for residential, 4-6" depth for playgrounds. and 6" for commercial. Anything less than 2" will not be thick enough to provide adequate cushioning. In addition, you want to make sure a playground has adequate coverage to protect fallers from hitting the ground below, so make sure to err on the side of too much rather than too little when measuring for your project
Once you have your measurements, you can begin to shop for rubber mulch. It's important to remember that not all mulch is created equal, so make sure to compare products before making your final decision.
